Third Time Lucky

Updated: May 11, 2018

I could not for the life of me think of a good name so I went with this, it has nothing to do with the blog but to hell with it. Let’s begin... university this year has been crazy not a lot of time to spare doing well... anything. Time this year is going so quickly especially with the vast work load that we have to complete, fairly sure I won’t be able to complete it all but watch this space. The last few months I have been working on my dissertation for university which has been thrilling and scary all the same. The project I”m doing for my dissertation is fairly different to anyone else’s that I have heard about so far, Im kinda hoping that gets recognised and is able to give me some extra credit. in the nutshell this film won’t be a film it will be a television pilot for a chat show about student life. Production has started and I film in a few days, which is nerve wreaking as this will be my directing debut and I’ll also be forced to edit it as part of the assignment. Editing being the worst thing on the planet I’m sure, but I’ll give it ago. The show it’s self is going to have 3 presenters, all from different back grounds, ethnicity, sexuality, sex and race. I thought it was important to aim for an extremely diverse cast as it bring more to the show on a social level. as this will be my first time directing I’m going to make sure that I have everything I need on the day as well as the support from my team during the shoot. This is something I couldn't of had if I didn’t agree to help so many peoples projects previously, I guess you can call this networking.

creating your own film for your dissertation is extremely expensive, it cost me over £1000. This includes presenters, set, and locations as well, nothing come cheap but the price Should be worth it. As I mentioned earlier my shoot will be different in a lot of ways compare to others, mine is going to be live OB ish, in the style its filmed, it will consist of multiple cameras filming simultaneously, this multi camera set up is a lot different to the single camera set up that we usually use in drama shoots. But techniques of filming never change, as the script will be more note form this gives the presenters more chance to improvise and this helps it sound more natural rather than full scripted.

I’m set to film this weekend and it’s going to be great, I have outstanding crew, fantastic presenters and a great studio so hopefully I can pull it off and be an okay director.

I‘ll give you guys updates when I can

wish me luck
